NEWS Post New Entry

Roach

Posted by Tony on May 26, 2012 at 12:00 AM

An angler on Starmers today told me he caught 10 Roach about 5" long on the float which shows the positive long-term effects of having weed in a lake. This is great news because the roach population had dwindled to very low numbers as to be nearly non-existent over the years.

I think its great having weed in here gives the fish natural food and cover personally i think it should be a rule that the weed is not to be torn out to create a spot to fish on there's plenty of clear spots in and around the weed its just a case of finding them

I agree in general Steve but i think it's important to keep about a rod-length or two clear in front of each swim to make it easier to bring weed-covered fish in and also we need to think of coarse anglers and their lighter lines.

Ye i agree with the margin clearing for that purpose but there been times when I've seen piles and piles of weed on the bank side which is full of naturall food its taking cover away for small fish and what's to say there isn't any small fish trapped in the weed that's been dragged out
