Baby Tench Coming Through

Posted by Tony on November 8, 2011 at 4:20 PM
Since the major emergence of the weed last year it appears that significant numbers of roach and tench fry are surviving to larger sizes. This is a great discovery as the numbers of adults being caught has diminished over the years. Hopefully in a couple of years floatfishing sport will improve considerably bringing Starmers back to it's former status as a proper mixed fishery..

i say leave the weed in and let nature take its course even if the weed covered the whole lake there will always be clear spots to carp fish instead of tearing the weed out just see no point in removing it dont be scared of a bit of weed lads lol

On the whole I agree with you Steve but I think we need to keep most of the near margins clear where people fish so that it's not too difficult to bring a fish in out of the weed in the middle. Hopefully we shall have the necessary tools on hand to do this next year.

Do remember that the carp will spawn in the margins in the weed. Maybe we should leave the weed and just let people rake spots to fish on. Clearing only in front of there swim if needed to allow line to be sunk.

I agree my thought was just to remove sufficient in each gap that would allow some space for anglers to bring a fish in safely. In a lot of cases people will be bringing fish in with quite large amounts of weed on so a clear space immediately in front will help with this situation and reduce stress for the captured fish as much as possible.

theres always clear spots to fish where the carp feed its just a case of finding them with out clearing spots good strong knots and a good hook hold will pull and fish threw the weed and of course making sure your lead is dumped on the take

to much worry about fishing in weed here if ya can not get the fish threw the weed rite threw to the bank ya must have weak gear or weak knots

We have to think of the float and pole anglers as well with their light lines and tackle....Starmers is a MIXED fishery.
